Children’s camps in Crimea will not admit children until September 1. This was announced by Sergei Aksyonov, the Russian-installed head of the peninsula.
The day before, parents began reporting that sessions at Crimean camps were being canceled. Ksenia Sobchak, in particular, published a video featuring the mother of a child who had been traveling to a new session at Artek.
According to the woman, the bus carrying children to the camp was turned back after it had already entered Crimea. She said the children then had to spend the night in Kerch, “in some kind of college.”
Other parents were reportedly contacted by the Crimean Education Ministry and told that all summer sessions had been canceled.
On the night of June 21, Ukrainian forces attacked port and oil facilities on both sides of the Kerch Strait. Following earlier drone strikes, the annexed peninsula had already experienced a fuel shortage.
Against that backdrop, gasoline sales at filling stations in Crimea were halted, and train traffic was also suspended. Trains bound for Crimea over the next few days are operating only as far as Kerch.
