A court in the Chelyabinsk Region has ordered the pretrial detention of a 17-year-old teenager accused of attempted terrorism. The information was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee.
According to investigators, on the night of July 14 to 15, the minor entered the grounds of the battalion responsible for guarding and escorting suspects and defendants of the Chelyabinsk police department. There, security officials allege, he poured a flammable liquid over a service Lada Niva and tried to set the vehicle on fire.
Investigators say the teenager was unable to carry out the plan because officers noticed him and scared him off. The statement does not specify whether the vehicle sustained any damage.
Officials have not said exactly when the young man was detained. It also remains unknown what motive, according to investigators, lay behind his actions.
