In Kemerovo Region, a 17-year-old teenager was detained in a case over setting fire to a police car

In Russia’s Kemerovo region, investigators have opened a criminal case against a 17-year-old resident of Anzhero-Sudzhensk suspected of setting fire to a police vehicle. The regional branches of the Investigative Committee and the Interior Ministry reported the case.

The teenager has been charged under Article 167, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, which covers deliberate destruction of another person’s property by arson.

According to investigators, on the evening of June 17, the minor entered the parking area of the local Interior Ministry department in Anzhero-Sudzhensk and used a flammable liquid to set one of the vehicles on fire.

Irina Volk, a representative of the Interior Ministry, said police believe the young man carried out the arson at the demand of an unidentified person. According to her, that person threatened to disclose his personal data.

Footage published by the police appears to show that the fire was extinguished almost immediately after it started.

Law enforcement agencies said a preventive measure is expected to be chosen for the detained teenager in the near future.
