Planet Labs recorded the aftermath of the attack on the Moscow oil refinery in Kapotnya. New satellite images were published on June 20 by Radio Liberty and the Ukrainian monitoring channels Supernova+ and Exilenova+.
The published photographs show a damaged storage tank. During the explosion, its lid was torn off and thrown aside, which is also visible in the satellite imagery.
According to OSINT analysts, the most likely cause of the explosion was a Russian air defense missile, not a Ukrainian drone. This version is cited as the probable explanation for the pattern of destruction.
The images also show damage to the AVT-6 primary oil processing unit. According to Reuters, this Euro+ processing block was the one put out of operation during the attack.
Traces of fire are also visible, according to the satellite images, on the grounds of the nearby Sadovod market.
The Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow and the Moscow region on June 18 was the largest since the start of the war. The materials published on June 20 added visual confirmation to reports about the consequences of the strike on industrial and neighboring sites.
