A 19-year-old resident of Krasnodar attacked visitors at the West Mall shopping center on the western outskirts of the city with a machete. The Interior Ministry’s press service and the Telegram channel Shot reported this.
According to the Investigative Committee and the governor, one woman was killed and five other people were injured in the attack. The injured include a security guard.
“A young man inside the shopping center inflicted knife wounds on several visitors. According to preliminary information, one woman died. The attacker has been detained,” police said.
The Interior Ministry also said that the attacker set off a “pyrotechnic device”. Footage of his detention shows that shopping center visitors subdued him in the Children’s Town play area next to restaurants on the third floor; the entire area is filled with smoke.
“No, nobody paid me <…> I’m just tired of life,” the young man says to people around him while lying face down after being detained.
Another video from the scene shows police escorting a long-haired युवक in handcuffs to a police vehicle. In footage of his questioning after detention, he is sitting on the floor with his legs also restrained.
During questioning, the detainee described himself as an employee of “a small construction supply shop.” He also told police that his father had died and that he had, in his words, “never used either drugs or alcohol.”
