Grocery chain VkusVill closed 286 of its 2,259 retail outlets in 2025. Izvestia reported this, citing data from the аналитической company Infoline.
As a result, the number of VkusVill stores in Russia fell by 12.7%. Izvestia notes that the sharpest decline affected compact outlets with an area of up to 100 square meters. Their number dropped by 24%, to 635 locations.
A VkusVill representative told reporters that some stores were closed as part of “network optimization.” He specified that more than 70% of the closed outlets were mini-stores. According to him, the reduction in locations is linked to the development of the delivery service and faster online sales.
Last year, many retailers revised their business expansion plans, said Polina Afanasyeva, head of the research and analytics department at CMWP. Among the main reasons, she cited the difficult economic situation, high borrowing costs, and intensifying competition from marketplaces.
Another factor was the strengthening of consumers’ savings-oriented behavior model and slower growth in retail turnover, the expert added.
Earlier, TASS reported that Russian clothing brands had also begun closing their retail outlets as part of “optimization.” These include Gloria Jeans, O’stin, Funday, Befree, Sela, Zarina, and Love Republic.
