A three-day mourning period from June 23 to June 25 has been declared in Russia’s Voronezh region for those killed in the missile strike of June 22. The announcement was made by Governor Alexander Gusev.
During the mourning period, state flags in the region are to be flown at half-mast. The authorities also advised cultural institutions to cancel entertainment events and asked television and radio companies to adjust their broadcast schedules.
Deaths and injuries
According to the governor, several dozen civilians were injured in the strike. Five people were killed. The families of those killed were promised 1 million rubles each, while those seriously wounded were promised 300,000 rubles.
Damage caused by the strike
Gusev said the heaviest damage was sustained by the Voronezh Semiconductor Devices Plant. In addition, falling debris damaged 10 apartment buildings and 6 private houses, as well as dozens of cars.
Medical response
Later that day, the Voronezh Regional Blood Center reported a shortage of donor blood of all types, but said two hours later that supplies had been restored. The Voronezh region’s Health Ministry opened a hotline for relatives and loved ones of those affected during the missile alert and expressed condolences to the victims and their families.
Target of the attack
According to the article, the target of the daytime strike on June 22 was the Voronezh Semiconductor Devices Plant. The facility develops integrated circuits and power modules for Russian missiles, including the Kh-101 and Iskander, and also manufactures components for combat vehicles used in Russian air defense systems.
