Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, said that on the night of July 11, 28 more Russian vessels were struck in the Sea of Azov. According to him, this was reported on his channel.
The military commander said the targets included 21 tankers, four tugboats, two cargo ships, and one special-purpose vessel. Brovdi added that from July 6 to July 11, Ukrainian forces attacked a total of 76 vessels that he described as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
Brovdi also said that strikes were carried out against 53 military facilities in Crimea and in the south of occupied Ukrainian territories. According to him, the targets included ships as well as energy infrastructure facilities.
Earlier on July 11, the governor of the Rostov region said that Ukrainian forces had struck four Russian vessels in Taganrog Bay. He said one of them was a tanker carrying methanol.
The governor also stated that one sailor was killed in the strike.
Reuters had previously reported that after massive Ukrainian drone attacks, Russia suspended shipping along the Azov-Don Sea Canal, which is used in part for grain exports. The agency said this could affect nearly a quarter of Russia’s wheat exports.
According to Reuters sources, vessel traffic through the Kerch Strait, which connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, was also temporarily halted.
