The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced 45-year-old Yevgeny Savostin to 28 years in prison in a case involving treason, ties to a terrorist organization, and training for war against Russia. The information was reported by the Moscow prosecutor’s office.
Under the ruling, he is to spend the first six years in prison. The remainder of the term is to be served in a maximum-security penal colony.
According to the prosecution, in the winter of 2023 Savostin was in Kyiv, where he joined the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK). Investigators say he then underwent training and was assigned the role of an armored personnel carrier driver.
Law enforcement authorities further allege that he later took part in combat operations in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.
According to prosecutors, in October 2025 he left Ukraine and arrived in Saratov to receive “further instructions” from the RDK. The agency said he was detained by security forces on October 30, 2025.
