Belgorod’s Oktyabrsky District Court sentenced local resident Elena Danyo to three years and three months in a general-regime penal colony in a case over a post calling for money to be sent to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The court’s press service reported the decision.
The court found Danyo guilty under the article on public calls for activity directed against state security. In addition to the prison term, she was banned from administering internet resources for three years.
According to investigators, the criminal case stemmed from a post published on Facebook on October 8, 2022. The prosecution said the post called on readers to finance the AFU.
Open-source reports did not specify when the criminal case was formally opened. There were also no reports about the detention of the Belgorod resident.
At the same time, on June 17, the Belgorod regional prosecutor’s office reported that the case had been sent to court. In that press release, the agency said the defendant was 41 years old.
The sentence against Elena Danyo was announced on July 8.
