At the St. Petersburg City Court, prosecutor Viktoria Khristova asked the court to sentence 23-year-old Alena Vasilyeva and Olga Bryntseva to 3 years and 4 months in a general-regime penal colony each. A Mediazona correspondent reported this from the courtroom.
They are charged with desecration of the state flag under Article 329 of the Russian Criminal Code and rehabilitation of Nazism under Part 4 of Article 354.1.
What prompted the case
According to the investigation, on the evening of May 27, 2025, the two women, while intoxicated and using obscene language, recorded a video on the embankment of the Monastyrka River. Investigators say the footage shows Alena Vasilyeva urinating on a passport and rubbing it against her genitals.
Later that same day, according to the prosecution, Vasilyeva approached posters connected to the May 9 celebrations near Ploshchad Alexandra Nevskogo metro station and exposed her buttocks beside them. Olga Bryntseva, investigators say, filmed what happened.
The recordings were later posted to the women’s Telegram channel, the court was told.
Prosecution’s position
Both defendants admitted guilt. They have been held in pretrial detention since May 30, 2025. Prosecutor Khristova separately said that Bryntseva “had practical skills and experience in filming in the ‘trash content’ genre.” The prosecution also noted that both women had previously faced administrative liability and that their bank accounts had been blocked.
