A teenager who has spent two years in a Moscow pretrial detention center scored more than 300 total points on the 2026 Unified State Exam across four subjects. According to RIA Novosti, this was reported by Ilya Vysotsky, head of Moscow’s Public Monitoring Commission.
The student’s name was not disclosed. Vysotsky said he was convicted last year for the arson of a relay cabinet. According to the commission head, the teenager wanted to earn money to court a girl and believed the offense would bring only administrative liability.
Vysotsky said the young man continued to study under the school curriculum throughout his time in custody. During that period, he became especially interested in Russian history and chose to take that subject on the exam.
According to the figures cited by the commission head, the student scored 91 points in history, 78 in mathematics, 72 in social studies, and 63 in Russian language.
Vysotsky also said that while in detention, the teenager developed an interest in Orthodox literature. In particular, he read Everyday Saints by Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov), whom media outlets describe as close to Vladimir Putin.
“I am even glad that I ended up here, because I started studying and understood many things,” Vysotsky quoted the teenager as saying.
Vysotsky added that the young man also said he no longer wants to let his mother down and hopes, after his release, to enroll in a law program at an institute.
