On the night of June 22, 59 Ukrainian drones were destroyed on the approach to Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported this.
The city authorities began publishing reports about downed drones at 03:02 a.m. Moscow time. Sobyanin issued his last overnight update at 05:07 a.m. He did not report any consequences of the attack.
Later in the morning on June 22, the mayor said that another 11 drones had been shot down on the approach to the city.
Amid the attack, all major airports in the Moscow region temporarily suspended operations overnight: Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. By morning, restrictions on arrivals and departures had been lifted.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces shot down or intercepted 301 Ukrainian drones overnight. The ministry said the drones were downed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Rostov, Tambov, Tver, Tula, and Smolensk regions, the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, as well as over annexed Crimea and the waters of the Azov and Black seas.
For comparison, during the night and morning of June 18, Moscow and the surrounding region were attacked by nearly 200 drones. That was described as the largest attack on the Russian capital since the start of the full-scale war. An oil refinery caught fire in Kapotnya, and, according to available reports, 17 people were injured in different towns in the Moscow region, while an eight-year-old girl was killed.
