Anatoly "George" Gunitsky, co-founder of the legendary St. Petersburg rock group "Aquarium," has passed away at 71. The news was confirmed by fellow founding member Boris Grebenshchikov, who had previously informed fans about Gunitsky's critical health condition and requested prayers for him.
"George Gunitsky has departed from this world. There will never be another like him. May he find eternal peace," Grebenshchikov shared in a heartfelt tribute.
Gunitsky and Grebenshchikov established "Aquarium" in 1972 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Known for his resemblance to Beatles guitarist George Harrison, Gunitsky earned his nickname "George" and contributed to the band as both a drummer and lyricist.
Since 2020, Gunitsky had been battling severe health issues, prompting multiple fundraising efforts by his "Aquarium" bandmates to support his medical treatment.
