On July 14, users in Russia reported problems accessing the websites of Apple, Google, and GitHub. Complaints were recorded by the monitoring services Sboy.rf and Downdetector, including reports from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Some users also reported difficulties opening the Samsung website. At the time the complaints appeared, the cause of the disruption remained unknown.
“It seems Google, GitHub, and Apple were blocked in Russia. What suggests this is not just an outage is the simultaneous loss of access and the indication that these are specifically network failures,” the specialized Telegram channel Heraks said.
At the same time, there were no official announcements that these sites had been blocked. Later, the outlet Kod Durova reported that the Apple, Google, and GitHub websites were working again in Russia. According to the publication, the disruption lasted about an hour.
After that, Roskomnadzor told the outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti that it was not blocking the websites of GitHub, Google, or Apple.
