The Vatican has announced the results of the conclave: American Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the new head of the Roman Catholic Church. He took the name Leo XIV, becoming, according to CNN, the first pope in history from the United States.
Addressing the faithful in St. Peter's Square, the pontiff said: "Peace be with you all. This is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life for God. And I would like this greeting of peace to enter our hearts and our families."
