The Ukhta court has temporarily suspended the hearing of the criminal case against Vladimir Torlopov, deputy chief of the city police, after he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. This information was confirmed by the court's press service in response to a request from Mediazona.
The court decided to halt the proceedings on April 7 at the request of the head of the Syktyvkar military recruitment office. The Investigative Committee had reported Torlopov's arrest back in November 2023. The deputy police chief of Ukhta is accused of abuse of power involving violence (Part 4, Article 286 of the Russian Criminal Code). According to investigators, in June 2023, he beat a woman in an attempt to extract a confession for a particularly serious crime.
As reported by the BNK portal, on the night of June 23, 2023, Torlopov, while intoxicated, arrived at a murder scene after being called from the duty station. There, he encountered the victim’s live-in partner. Despite her pointing to another suspect, the officer began choking the woman, throwing her onto the corpse, restraining her at the crime scene, and dragging her by the hair. The abuse later continued inside the Ukhta police department building.
Throughout the investigation, the accused remained in custody. The case materials against Torlopov were submitted to the court in November 2024, but nine consecutive hearings were postponed due to the absence of witnesses.
