82-year-old former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with "aggressive prostate cancer," according to a report by *The New York Times*, citing an official statement from his representatives.

The diagnosis was made on Friday, May 16, after the politician sought medical attention due to urinary issues. During the examination, doctors discovered a "small lump" on his prostate, which required further tests. Reports indicate that the former head of state has been diagnosed with metastatic cancer that has spread to bone tissue.

"Despite the aggressive nature of the disease, this type of cancer is responsive to hormone therapy, making it treatable," *The New York Times* quoted Biden's press office as saying. It was also noted that the politician and his family are consulting with doctors to evaluate possible treatment options.

Current U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the news by expressing support for his former rival. "[My wife] Melania and I are deeply saddened by Joe Biden’s diagnosis. We send our heartfelt wishes to [his wife] Jill and the entire family, and we wish Joe a swift recovery," Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

Joe Biden concluded his presidential term in January, setting a record as the oldest head of state in U.S. history. Ahead of the recent elections, despite the Democratic Party's endorsement, he lost a debate to Trump, after which he withdrew from the race under pressure from allies. Vice President Kamala Harris ran in his place as the Democratic candidate.
