Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has approved legislation restoring authority to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), according to RBC-Ukraine.
The bill received 331 votes in favor, with no opposing votes recorded. Nine lawmakers abstained from voting.
This parliamentary session marked the first time since Russia's full-scale invasion that proceedings were broadcast live online, a practice previously restricted due to security concerns.
As the vote took place, dozens of demonstrators gathered in Kyiv's Mariinsky Park near the parliament building, showing support for reinstating NABU and SAPO's autonomy. Photographic evidence indicates the protest drew a modest crowd.
This decision reverses an earlier parliamentary vote that had removed the anti-corruption agencies' independent status. That prior move had triggered widespread public demonstrations across Ukraine's major cities, with citizens demanding its reversal. Economic Pravda reported the European Union froze financial assistance following the initial law's passage.
