The strongest seismic event recorded off Kamchatka's coast since 1952 has been reported by researchers from the Kamchatka division of FIC EGS RAS.
Positioned approximately 150 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the quake's epicenter was detected at a depth of 17 km.
Initial magnitude estimates indicated 8.7, though regional governor Vladimir Solodov later revised this to 8.8—marking it as the most intense earthquake in the region's instrumental observation history.
