Russian journalist Yury Dudya could potentially face investigation for alleged state treason, according to a TASS report citing law enforcement sources.
The source provided no specifics about the potential probe.
Earlier, on July 22, Moscow's Basmanny District Court ordered Dudya's arrest in absentia for allegedly violating "foreign agent" obligations (Article 330.1, Part 3 of the Criminal Code). This charge implies the accused gathered military intelligence that could benefit a foreign state against Russia.
Prosecutors initiated proceedings against Dudya on July 1 for evading "foreign agent" requirements. Authorities claim he disseminated content without proper labeling. Previously, he had been fined twice within a year for similar violations.
The Justice Ministry designated Dudya a "foreign agent" in April 2022. By early March 2024, he ceased compliance with labeling rules and reportedly urged foreign businesses to purchase his ad space.
In May 2025, a court ordered Dudya and designer Artemy Lebedev to remove an interview segment where Lebedev insulted activist Yekaterina Mizulina. The ruling deemed their remarks defamatory, imposing fines of 200,000 rubles on Dudya and 300,000 on Lebedev.
