In the Italian city of Rimini, Ukrainian citizen Sergei K. was detained on suspicion of involvement in the explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. This information was confirmed by the German Federal Prosecutor's Office.
A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee on charges of complicity in organizing the explosions, anti-constitutional sabotage, and destruction of infrastructure facilities.
According to the version of the German prosecutors, the detainee may have acted as one of the coordinators of the pipeline bombing operation, which occurred in September 2022 near the Danish island of Bornholm.
According to the authorities, the suspect and his accomplices used a sailing yacht, which departed from Rostock, to transport explosives. The vessel was rented from a German company through intermediaries using false documents.
After extradition from Italy, the man will appear before an investigative judge of the German Federal Court.
