According to a Reuters report, Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed a law passed by the Sejm extending benefits for Ukrainian refugees.
The bill provided for the continuation of social benefits and temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine until March 2026. If the law does not come into force, current payments will cease as of September 30.
Nawrocki stated that existing legislation on assistance to Ukrainian refugees requires changes. He proposed limiting benefit payments to minor children and providing free healthcare only to working Ukrainians.
Additionally, the president announced the preparation of his own bill on migration policy. In particular, he noted: "To counter Russian propaganda and build Polish-Ukrainian relations on the basis of real partnership and respect, we must clearly say 'stop to Banderism' and equate UPA symbolism with Nazi and Soviet communist symbolism by introducing corresponding amendments to the law."
