By the decision of the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv, Mykhailo Scelnykov, suspected of murdering former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy, has been taken into custody. This information was published by the outlet "Suspilne."
Scelnykov will remain in detention for 60 days without the possibility of bail. During the court hearing, he openly confessed to the crime.
"Yes, I killed him, he was nearby. If I lived in Vinnytsia, it would have been Petia [Poroshenko]. I want to be convicted quickly, exchanged for prisoners of war, and then go to Russia to search for my son's body," the accused stated.
He also explained that the murder of Parubiy is his "personal revenge against the Ukrainian authorities." Scelnykov denies any involvement with Russian special services.
The attack on Parubiy occurred on August 30 in Lviv. An unknown assailant on an electric scooter with a Glovo delivery service bag fired eight shots at the politician from a pistol and fled the scene. The suspect was detained the following day.
Andriy Parubiy was one of the organizers of the Euromaidan in 2014 and headed the Maidan Self-Defense unit. He later served as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for several months. From 2016 to 2019, Parubiy was Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and also served as a People's Deputy of the Ukrainian parliament for a longer period.
