From September 29, AvtoVAZ will switch to a four-day workweek. This was reported to Interfax by Sergey Zaytsev, chairman of the primary trade union organization.

According to a presentation by Vice President for HR and Social Policy Dmitry Mikhalenko, this measure is being introduced to prevent mass layoffs and preserve the workforce.

According to the trade union, the shortened workweek will be in effect for six months. The company clarified that the measure may be canceled if the sales situation improves.

Earlier, in the first half of 2025, AvtoVAZ management had already taken steps to protect the workforce. These included increasing the production of spare parts, organizing additional equipment repairs, improving working conditions, upgrading facilities, and providing employee training and retraining.

Interfax cites data from Autostat: since January 2025, Lada car sales have decreased by 24.9%.

Earlier, a four-day workweek was introduced at the LiAZ, GAZ, and KAMAZ plants due to a market downturn.
