The Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) has gained access to testimonies from employees of Correctional Colony IK-3 in Kharp, where politician Alexei Navalny died on February 16, 2024, and has reconstructed a detailed sequence of events related to his death. This is reported in a new investigation prepared by the foundation’s team.

According to information provided by five colony employees, Navalny repeatedly complained of pain in his leg. On February 3, he was sent to the medical unit, where his blood pressure and temperature were measured. The politician asked to be examined by a neurologist, but it appears the facility had no relevant specialists.

On the morning of February 16, Navalny again reported pain in his leg, as confirmed by at least three employees. However, the head of the medical unit, Alexei Lisyuk, in his testimony, denied that the prisoner had made any complaints.

From 11:30 to 12:00, the colony held lunch. At 12:10, Navalny was taken out for a walk, where he suddenly fell ill.

"When the door to the exercise yard was opened, he was squatting and again said he felt unwell. However, he wasn’t even sent to the medical unit—he was simply returned to cell No. 16. Alexei lay on the floor, pulled his knees to his stomach, and began moaning in pain. He complained of a burning sensation in his chest and stomach, then vomiting began. According to the testimony of employee Nemtsev, Alexei had convulsions, heavy breathing, coughing, and moaning," the FBK investigation notes.
