The General Prosecutor's Office has filed a lawsuit demanding the return of property of the St. Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences (SPbGUP), established by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions (FNPR), to the state. The relevant information is published by the newspaper "Kommersant".
According to the position of the department, between 2009 and 2014, the FNPR and the university rector Alexander Zapesotsky illegally registered the university's property, which originally belonged to the state, in their own names. Among other things, the trade unions were improperly transferred ownership rights to a dormitory, academic buildings, a dance pavilion, an academic and residential building with a hotel, a garage, a transformer substation, and a boiler house.
The lawsuit also alleges that Zapesotsky "has been using university property for personal enrichment for decades through income from tuition fees paid by students and budget subsidies."
