The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation in Russia reported that approximately ten percent of military personnel participating in the war against Ukraine have left their positions by deserting.

According to a new report by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Russia, Mariana Katzarova, since the beginning of 2022, over 50,000 servicemen have deserted from the Russian army.

The document states that the total number of combatants on the Russian side is approximately 500,000 people. Therefore, the proportion of deserters could reach 10% of the total number of military personnel. According to human rights activists, the provided data reflects the actual situation.
