The International Paralympic Committee has reinstated the credentials of the Russian Paralympic Committee and lifted the restrictions imposed in connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The relevant information is available in the official IPC press release.
During the voting at the organization's General Assembly, the issue of complete exclusion of the Russian committee was first considered, followed by the extension of partial disqualification. In both cases, the majority of participants voted against the respective proposals.
Thanks to the reinstatement of status, Russian athletes will have the right to compete under their national flag. Previously, Russian Paralympians could only participate in competitions under a neutral status.
This decision applies to those sports disciplines in which the IPC acts as the international federation: athletics, swimming, powerlifting, sled hockey, and shooting.
