On October 12, the Central Bank of Russia announced the cancellation of the vote to select the image for the new 500-ruble banknote.
The regulator's statement explained: "We have recorded numerous attempts to artificially inflate votes for certain objects using technical means. This does not allow for objective voting results."
The Central Bank promised to organize a revote with the same list of symbols but under revised conditions that will eliminate the possibility of unfair influence on the outcome.
The voting was launched on October 1 on the Bank of Russia's online resource. Landmarks of Pyatigorsk were proposed for the obverse of the banknote, and symbols of the North Caucasus for the reverse. The greatest competition was observed between the image of Mount Elbrus and the Grozny City complex, which received support from the leadership of Chechnya.
