According to the Russian Union of Auto Services, there may have been an increase in cases of gasoline dilution at gas stations. Earlier, fuel shortages were noted in several regions of the country.

In Russia, the number of cases of refueling with low-quality gasoline appears to be increasing, which is linked to fraudulent schemes at gas stations where fuel is being diluted. This data was provided to the National News Service by representatives of the Russian Union of Auto Service Providers.

Earlier, the Telegram channel Baza, known for its connections with law enforcement agencies, reported engine failures in several dozen Geely vehicles from the 2025 model year. The manufacturer indicated that the cause of the malfunction is the increased content of oxidants in Russian fuel, for which Chinese cars are not prepared.

As a solution to the problem, the conglomerate plans to update the software for at least the Geely Monjaro models.

Experts from the Union of Auto Service Providers explained that Russian gasoline producers are forced to reduce product quality due to the inability to raise prices.

"There is a correlation between these reports and what has happened. Under economic difficulties and shortages in a number of regions, many have artificially increased the octane number using various additives. However, there is no precise confirmation yet. Similar cases occurred at the turn of the 2000s and 2010s at some gas stations—you could refuel and immediately head for repairs. Unfortunately, the situation may now repeat," noted one of the Union's experts.

In Russia's regions, fuel supply disruptions persist, sales restrictions have been introduced, queues at gas stations are increasing, and gasoline prices are rising. According to Rosstat data, fuel prices have risen by 9.22% since January. The crisis is caused by drone attacks on oil refineries, increased demand, and reduced subsidies for oil processors. Authorities' attempts to stabilize the market have so far yielded no results.
