According to Novaya Gazeta Europe, which studied the budget bill submitted by the government to the State Duma at the end of September, from 2026 to 2028 the Union of Writers of Russia will annually receive 351 million rubles from the federal budget. These funds are allocated under the expenditure item "Accessible and high-quality content in the modern information space."
Previously, the organization did not have such a level of funding, and its expenses were significantly lower. Compared to the 2024 budget, the volume of allocated funds will increase almost sevenfold. In February 2025, Vladimir Medinsky—the former Minister of Culture and now an aide to the president, whom book market experts consider the de facto coordinator of the book censorship system in Russia—took over the leadership of the Union of Writers.
