From October 26 at 22:10 (23:10 Moscow time), the ground border checkpoints on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border are ceasing operations for an indefinite period. The reason was the penetration of balloons carrying smuggled goods into Lithuanian territory, as reported by the Lithuanian border service.
According to Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovich, the resumption of border operations will only be possible after a corresponding decision by the national security commission.
Earlier, Vilnius Airport suspended air traffic for six hours. As a result, 13 flights were canceled, 14 were redirected to other airports, and 20 flights were delayed.
Over the past week, Vilnius Airport has repeatedly interrupted operations, and ground checkpoints have been temporarily closed due to regular incidents of smuggled balloons entering from Belarusian territory.
