In Novosibirsk, a protest titled “No to punitive ‘veterinary medicine’!” against mass livestock slaughter took place at the entrance to the square near the Globus Theater, the Russian Communist Party (Internationalists) reports.
Several dozen people took part in the event. A tractor was brought into the square itself for snow removal. Police said that holding a rally there while it was operating would be illegal. As a result, the protest was held at the entrance.
According to reports, the security forces did not disperse the event. There are also no reports of detentions among the protesters.
Earlier that morning, one of the organizers of the rally, activist Sergei Krupenko, was detained on his way to the protest.
The situation with mass livestock slaughter in Russia has gotten out of control. The authorities are sending veterinarians to private farms accompanied by police officers, who seize, kill, and burn dozens of cows and other domestic animals.
There is a foot-and-mouth disease epidemic in Russia, according to a representative of a Novosibirsk agricultural holding company who spoke with Novaya-Europe. Until officials acknowledge this, more than half of the regions will not be able to begin using preventive vaccinations.
