In the Ulyanovsk region, near Bryandino station, seven cars of a passenger train traveling on the Chelyabinsk-Moscow route derailed, Russian Railways said.
According to preliminary data, seven people were injured. Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexey Teksler writes that 22 people, including one child, sustained injuries.
According to the regional head, there were 157 people on the train, including 65 children. Russian Railways said additional cars had been sent to the scene to transport passengers. At Ulyanovsk-Centralny station, an inspection point is being organized where the injured will receive medical assistance if necessary.
The causes of the derailment have not yet been established. Russia's Investigative Committee said it is determining the circumstances of the incident. Investigators and forensic specialists from the Central Interregional Transport Investigative Department have been sent to the scene.
