One of the convicts in the Crocus City Hall attack case died by suicide in a pretrial detention center. RBC was informed of this by the Moscow branch of Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service, FSIN.

“Resuscitation efforts were carried out at the scene, but they did not produce results. An inspection is currently underway, and there will be results today,” the agency said.

Daniel Gauthier, a lawyer for victims in the Crocus attack case, as well as a law enforcement source cited by RIA Novosti, clarified that the person was Yakubdzhoni Davlatkhon Yusufzoda. According to the pro-security-forces Telegram channel Mash, the convict tried to hang himself in his cell. FSIN staff performed resuscitation, but the man died on the way to the hospital.

In March, Yakubdzhoni Yusufzoda was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Crocus attack case. According to investigators, a few days before the attack he transferred money to accomplices “for обеспечение their accommodation.” The Investigative Committee says part of the funds was sent to one of the alleged perpetrators after the attack had already been carried out.

RBC and Kommersant also report that another convict in the Crocus attack case, Dzhabrail Aushev, who was also sentenced to life imprisonment, attempted suicide. He tried to take his own life at the Krasnaya Presnya transit prison. According to journalists, the convict survived. Sources say this was not Aushev’s first suicide attempt.

The court found Aushev guilty of involvement in the illegal trafficking of weapons and ammunition. According to the prosecution, he was an accomplice of the terrorists who carried out the attack on Crocus City Hall.
