In Perm Krai, a student attacked a teacher with a knife; she died

In the town of Dobryanka in Perm Krai, a ninth-grade student attacked a teacher with a knife, the Interior Ministry said. According to Governor Dmitry Makhonin, the woman died after being hospitalized.

Police said the attack took place today at about 8:00 a.m. (6:00 a.m. Moscow time) near the entrance to School No. 5 in Dobryanka. The student stabbed his homeroom teacher. She was taken to the hospital and later died there.

The victim was identified as Olesya Baguta, the school’s vice principal and a teacher of Russian language and literature. According to the district head, there is no threat to students, and the school is operating as usual.

The 17-year-old attacker was detained and taken to the local police department. Dmitry Antonov, head of the Dobryansky district, said the student is registered with the police and had also been kept back for repeat years at school several times. The motives for his actions are now being established.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under articles covering murder and negligence.
