According to Pepel, Major General Alexander Shuvayev is expected to replace Gladkov. A source cited by Novaya-Europe says he may begin his duties as early as next Monday, April 13.
Since January this year, Shuvayev has served as deputy head of Irkutsk region. Before that, he took part in the war against Ukraine and commanded the 1st Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the 1st Donetsk Army Corps of the 8th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District.
As Pepel writes, during his participation in combat operations, Shuvayev received the title Hero of Russia, Hero of the “LNR,” three Orders of Courage, and other awards. After returning from the front in the summer of 2025, he joined the federal кадровой program “Time of Heroes.”
Journalists note that Shuvayev was born in Novy Oskol near Belgorod, and this, in particular, may have influenced his potential appointment as head of the region.
At the same time, residents of Belgorod region have begun receiving calls from VTsIOM, during which they are asked about “Gladkov’s mistakes,” what positive things he did for the region, and whether they believe Belgorod region “needs a new governor.” Pepel also reports this.
