The Tula Garrison Military Court sentenced 46-year-old contract soldier Sergei Kosarikhin to six years in a penal colony in a case involving the infliction of grievous bodily harm. «Mediazona» drew attention to the case.

According to investigators, in August of last year the defendant was drinking alcohol in an apartment with another man and the man's pregnant partner. At some point, an argument broke out. Kosarikhin took a knife and stabbed the woman in the stomach. She lost consciousness and fell to the floor. Her partner knocked the knife out of the attacker's hands, pinned him to the floor, and called doctors.

The victim was diagnosed with injuries to the spleen and small intestine. Because of the wound, doctors had to terminate the pregnancy. Investigators classified this as grievous bodily harm.

As «Mediazona» found, Sergei Kosarikhin had previously been convicted multiple times for various crimes. In 2008, he was given a two-year suspended sentence for inflicting grievous bodily harm, and in 2009 he was sentenced to ten years in a penal colony for murder.

In 2016, the Tula resident was additionally given one year in prison for drug possession in a penal colony. In 2020, he was sentenced to 1.5 years in custody for theft, and in 2022 to 2.5 years in a penal colony for a similar crime.

Kosarikhin likely did not serve his full sentence because he signed a contract with the Defense Ministry, «Mediazona» writes. The latest verdict states that he fought in the war in Ukraine and was taken prisoner. According to the Ukrainian project «Nash Vykhod», he was exchanged in February 2024. During his participation in the war, the contract soldier was awarded the medal «For Courage».
