U.S. President Donald Trump said the country’s naval forces are beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. He wrote this on his social network Truth Social.
According to him, the meeting in Pakistan went “well,” and “agreement was reached” on most issues, but “on the only truly important point — the nuclear one — there was no agreement.”
“From this moment on, the U.S. Navy, the best in the world, will begin blocking all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote on the social network TruthSocial.
Trump claims the blockade will begin in the “near future.” “Other countries” will take part in the blockade, though he did not specify which ones. He said Washington would destroy Iranian forces if they opened fire on American ships.
In the future, the United States intends to return to the principle of “free entry and exit for all,” but Iran is preventing this, the U.S. leader wrote. Trump also added that American forces would search for and detain ships that had paid Iran to pass through the strait.
“No one who pays illegal duties will receive safe passage on the high seas,” he said.
