The region’s administration chief, Alexander Lorents, will temporarily serve as acting head of the region.
Earlier, Vedomosti reported that the authorities were discussing a possible change of leadership in the Belgorod region. Sources cited by Pepel and Novaya-Europe said that after Gladkov’s resignation, Major General Alexander Shuvaev, a participant in the war in Ukraine, would be appointed governor of the region.
Earlier, neMoskva noted that amid rumors of his resignation, Gladkov had disappeared from the public sphere. In particular, he stopped posting his traditional morning videos on social media about the situation in the region.
At the same time, Vedomosti wrote that Gladkov is being considered for the post of deputy to Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov. Reshetnikov became head of the ministry in 2022 after serving as governor of Perm Krai.
In addition, Vedomosti reported that Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz and Dagestan head Sergei Melikov could also lose their posts. The latter recently called himself a “soldier of Supreme Commander-in-Chief” Vladimir Putin and said that he “will be where he orders [him] to be”.
