Law enforcement agencies detained former serviceman Sergei Basalaev, who opened fire on police officers in the Orenburg region on April 16 during an attempt to arrest him. This was reported by the Interior Ministry and the Investigative Committee.
The man has already been placed in pretrial detention. He has been charged with attempting on the lives of law enforcement officers, murder, and attempted murder. In addition, Basalaev is a defendant in a case involving unauthorized abandonment of his unit.
Basalaev is 52 years old. Previously, he ran a small business and worked as a driver. He apparently became a serviceman after being detained with drugs, «Агентство» writes.
