Igor Sergunin, a lawyer for Alexei Navalny, has been released from SIZO-1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Vladimir Region, according to Pervy Otdel.
Sergunin had been in custody since October 13, 2023. He was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for participating in an “extremist community.”
Case details. Other Navalny lawyers, Alexey Liptser and Vadim Kobzev, remain in custody. They were sentenced to five years and five and a half years in prison, respectively. All three defense lawyers were also banned from practicing law for three years after their release.
According to investigators, the lawyers helped Navalny “carry out the functions of the leader and head of an extremist community” and passed his messages to associates. Only Sergunin admitted guilt.
