Two Belarusian citizens detained in Poland as part of the investigation into the murder of artist Semyon Skrepetsky have been released. This was reported by Marcin Kozak, a representative of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin.
Investigation. Kozak said the theory that the detainees were involved in the crime was not confirmed. They were questioned as witnesses and then released.
According to Kozak, prosecutors have several versions of what happened, but he declined to disclose them. The investigation is ongoing.
Context. Semyon Skrepetsky was shot dead on June 15 in the city of Biala Podlaska on the border between Poland and Belarus. According to media reports, an unidentified person fired several shots at the artist and then fled.
DzikMedia wrote that the alleged killer was driven to the crime scene by a taxi driver from Belarus who did not know a murder was being prepared. Later, according to prosecutors, the suspected perpetrator and his accomplice tried to hide on the territory of the Belarusian consulate, but they were detained in time.
⚪️ Who is he. Semyon Skrepetsky was a Russian artist, musician, and blogger. He was known for his satirical, political, and anti-war works. Most often, he made caricatures of Vladimir Putin and Joseph Stalin. In 2021, he left Russia for Poland because of the risk of political persecution.
Last week, Skrepetsky staged a performance in Berlin: he came to the Brandenburg Gate wearing bast shoes, with a Russian flag tied to his trousers and a painting depicting Stalin “feeding” Putin.
