The politician opposed many of the restrictions being introduced.

Lyudmila Narusova, the widow of St. Petersburg’s first mayor Anatoly Sobchak and the mother of journalist Ksenia Sobchak, may leave her post as a senator, Kommersant writes.

Vladislav Khovalyg, the head of Tuva whom Narusova represents in the Federation Council, does not plan to extend her mandate if he is re-elected for a new term. There are also no plans to find her a seat in another region. Narusova herself told the newspaper that she does not know about the plans of Tuva’s head.

🔵 Kommersant describes Narusova as one of the most opposition-minded Russian senators. During her years in the Federation Council, she criticized many laws adopted in the country, including:

— bills to tighten the law on rallies, create the “foreign agents” institution, and raise the retirement age;

— amendments to the Constitution in 2020;

— a bill introducing criminal liability for “fake news about the army” and the “discrediting” of the Russian Armed Forces;

— a bill on fines for searching for “extremism” on the internet and advertising VPN services;

— the bill “on electronic draft notices.”

🔵 Lyudmila Narusova first entered parliament in 1995, when she was elected to the State Duma from St. Petersburg on the list of the “Our Home Is Russia” movement. At that time, the city was headed by her husband, Anatoly Sobchak. Narusova has served as a senator representing different Russian regions since 2002.
