State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Vyacheslav Markhayev wrote on his Telegram channel that Russia is “on the verge of a social explosion.” He linked the situation to rising housing and utility tariffs, corruption, elite enrichment, and the absence of a public plan for ending the “special military operation.”

“What would an external enemy do if Russia were captured? It would appropriate resources, plunder industry, jack up tariffs, build mansions for itself. But no invasion took place — the authorities managed this on their own, more effectively than any aggressor. In 35 years, not a single successful reform has been carried out, while oligarchs continue to multiply and grow richer, and this is in the fifth year of the special military operation,” he wrote.

Markhayev also criticized the holding of SPIEF against the backdrop of Ukrainian attacks on Russian cities. According to him, such events create an impression of well-being, while many state programs and strategies remain “on paper.” The deputy named the housing and utilities sector as one of the key problems. He said that over the past 25 years tariffs have increased by 366%, while Putin’s direct orders to restrain tariffs are not being carried out.

In conclusion, the deputy called on the Kremlin to “come to its senses,” stop the rise in housing and utility tariffs, ensure accountability for officials who fail to implement laws and Putin’s orders, and also “present a clear, public plan for ending the special military operation.” Otherwise, in his view, a “social explosion” could occur in the country, and full responsibility for it would fall on the “irremovable authorities.”
