In his homeland, he was sentenced in absentia to 20 years in a penal colony.
In Lviv, a court is beginning to consider a lawsuit seeking to declare illegal the decision of Ukraine's migration service to extradite Russian national Aslan Khakimov to the Russian Federation, «Новая-Европа» reports. He was involved in creating ground drones for the Ukrainian army.
More than ten years ago, Khakimov entered Ukraine illegally. In early April of this year, he was sent to a detention center for foreigners and stateless persons, and in the near future he may be forcibly expelled from the country.
What is known about Khakimov. Aslan Khakimov is a volunteer and military engineer. In particular, he developed a ground robotic system for the Ukrainian army.
In early April, he was detained and then placed in a detention center for foreigners as part of a criminal case on document forgery. Khakimov is accused of illegally crossing the border between the Belgorod and Kharkiv regions in 2015 and of not submitting an application to the migration service for asylum in Ukraine.
He himself explained this by distrust of the Ukrainian authorities and fear that he would be handed over to Russia. All these years he used forged documents, and his real surname is Pupkayev.
According to Khakimov, he is listed on the Interpol wanted list, and in Russia he was declared a “terrorist.” According to the man, he was previously tortured by FSB officers, and that is why he decided to flee. Ukrainian lawyer Borys Zakharov reports that a Russian court sentenced Khakimov in absentia to 20 years in prison.
After his detention, the Russian national said that he was ready to transfer all of his production to the authorities free of charge if it would help the Ukrainian military win the war with Russia.
How Khakimov is being defended. Khakimov's wife Alexandra says that he lived with her in Ukraine for more than 10 years, and they have children. According to her, her husband headed several companies in the country and paid taxes. Since 2022, he has reportedly actively supported the Armed Forces of Ukraine with his developments, inventions, and personal funds.
«Я — украинка. Мы вместе с 2024 года, у нас есть ребенок. От предыдущего брака у него двое детей, и они тоже украинцы. Я не знала о его гражданстве страны-агрессора, но он внес огромный вклад в поддержку ВСУ, и Украине будет неправильно депортировать его в Россию. Там его ждут пытки и смерть», the portal «Antikor» quotes Khakimov's wife Alexandra as saying.
«С начала полномасштабной войны я помогаю Украине своими разработками для фронта: наземными роботизированными комплексами, гусеницами и безвоздушными колесами, — обратился Хакимов к президенту Владимиру Зеленскому. — Сегодня я прошу лишь одного — справедливого и объективного рассмотрения моего дела».
As Ukrainian lawyer Borys Zakharov says, a few days ago the European Court of Human Rights suspended Khakimov's extradition to Russia, applying urgent measures under Rule 39 of the court's rules.
At present, Khakimov's representatives have filed a new lawsuit with the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv, demanding that the decision of the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMSU) on his forced expulsion from the country be declared illegal and canceled.
The court accepted the lawsuit for consideration and officially opened administrative proceedings.
