An 11th-grade student from Nyagan was arrested on charges of having ties to a terrorist organization. His family asked that the schoolboy not be placed in pretrial detention because he needs to prepare for his exams, but the court kept the teenager in custody. Mediazona reported this.
The teenager was detained on May 8. According to investigators, he joined the Russian Volunteer Corps, and his actions were allegedly “organized and controlled by handlers.” It is not specified what exactly the investigation considers to be a connection to the RDK. The case materials mention the purchase of rail tickets and a “large amount of potential evidence” on the internet.
The teenager’s mother asked the court not to send him to pretrial detention, saying he needs to finish the 11th grade and prepare for the Unified State Exam. The defense asked for house arrest or a ban on certain activities.
The appellate court stated that some of the investigators’ conclusions were based on assumptions and were not supported by the case materials. Despite this, the teenager was left in pretrial detention, with the court saying that his legal representatives would not be able to ensure control over his behavior outside custody.
