During the night and morning of June 6, Ukraine carried out a massive attack on Russian regions. One of the main strikes targeted St. Petersburg.

🔵 Several sites in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region were attacked. In Lomonosov, the target was likely the Research Institute of Marine Thermal Engineering, a key enterprise involved in the development of underwater weapons. In Kronstadt, the Kronstadt Naval Cadet Military Corps appears to have been attacked. In Peterhof, drones attempted to strike an oil depot.

The head of St. Petersburg urged residents to “stay in their homes and not go outside” and warned that “mobile internet disruptions are possible” in the city. Ukraine launched 144 drones at St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, a record since the start of the war in Ukraine.

🔵 In the Krasnodar region, the strike hit an oil depot in the city of Ust-Labinsk. A major fire broke out there, with a column of smoke rising above the site. According to ASTRA, the Poltavskaya oil depot is burning. Authorities say there are no casualties. The fire covers about 5,000 square meters.

🔵 In the city of Uzlovaya in the Tula region, a fire broke out after a UAV strike. ASTRA reports that the drone fell near residential buildings; footage shows at least one injured person.

🔵 In Smolensk, a drone crashed into a construction crane. The regional governor said 42 UAVs took part in the attack, but industrial infrastructure was not damaged.

🔵 In addition, authorities in the Stavropol region and the Volgograd region have warned of the danger of strikes. Nine UAVs were shot down near Moscow. Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency reported the closure of the airports in Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, and Pskov.

🔵 Overnight, Russian forces shot down 376 Ukrainian drones over the regions, the Defense Ministry said.

➡️ Reaction. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote that Russia must “end its war and stop attacking civilians.”

“Last night, our drones covered a distance of about 1,000 kilometers to the St. Petersburg region — to the enemy navy’s arsenals and the base in Kronstadt. And our long-range sanctions also covered about 500 kilometers to the Krasnodar region and struck the oil depot,” he said.

➡️ Context. The day before, Vladimir Putin spoke at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and said he saw no point in meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky responded that he had approved new operations against Russia with the Security Service of Ukraine.
