A judge of Moscow’s Tverskoy Court granted the investigators’ request to ease the preventive measure for Novaya Gazeta journalist Oleg Roldugin, Novaya Gazeta reports.
Details. The investigator said that Roldugin supports minor children and elderly parents. In addition, the journalist partially admitted guilt.
Context. Oleg Roldugin was detained on April 9 — on the same day, searches were carried out at the Novaya Gazeta newsroom in Moscow. The next day, he was sent to a pretrial detention center in a case involving the use of personal data.
Charge. Roldugin is charged under Part 3 of Article 272.1 of the Russian Criminal Code — “unlawful access to computer information” as part of a group of persons.
Law enforcement officers used the article on illegal operations with personal data against a media outlet for work with leaks for the first time. Previously, it had been used only against administrators of leak databases and law enforcement officers who leak data.
